Medec to expand Hakodate semiconductor equipment plant by 60%, investing ¥1bn
Medec, a Hakodate-based semiconductor equipment maker, will invest ¥1 billion to buy adjacent land (approx. 13,000 sqm) and build a new plant, expanding manufacturing space by 60% (1.6x) ahead of Rapidus's planned FY2027 mass production of leading-edge chips and rising global semiconductor demand. Construction is set to start as early as October 2026 and complete around May 2027, and will also involve renovating an existing factory acquired on the site.
