Allied Material to build new tungsten powder plant in Toyama, boosting capacity 1.5x
Allied Material Corporation, a Sumitomo Electric group company, will invest about ¥15.9bn to build a new plant near its Toyama Works (Iwase-Koshimachi, Toyama City) to strengthen stable supply of tungsten powder and tungsten carbide powder — materials essential for cemented carbide tools, semiconductor circuit wiring and electronic components amid global supply concerns. On a roughly 40,000 sqm site about 1km from the existing plant, the facility will raise reduction and carbonization capacity by about 1.5x, with operations targeted for H1 FY2028. The project is certified under METI's critical-minerals supply-security program and is eligible for a subsidy.
