Furukawa Electric will invest approximately JPY 100 billion in manufacturing equipment, land and buildings in the United States, Brazil, Japan and India to expand optical-fiber and rollable ribbon-cable production. The projects are scheduled to begin mass production sequentially from the second half of fiscal 2028, with rollable ribbon-cable capacity expected to approximately double from the end of fiscal 2025, driven by data-center and generative-AI demand.

GMO Internet has joined the Ishikari Data Center Consortium and decided to develop a new site in the Ishikari Bay New Port area of Hokkaido to expand computing resources for its GMO GPU Cloud. The company will work with data center, power, telecommunications and municipal partners to secure the electricity, communications infrastructure and land needed for an AI computing hub.
Fantasista's board decided to develop an AI data center on approximately 71,787 sqm of land it owns in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi, through consolidated subsidiary NC MAX WORLD. The planned facility has a total power capacity of approximately 200MW, with a Phase I project budget of approximately ¥400 billion, and the company is targeting development-permit acquisition during fiscal 2028. Fantasista states the project's content, scale, schedule and cost remain subject to change, or the project may not proceed, pending discussions with local authorities, utilities and other parties.
ITOKI has renewed its 30-year-old mother factory and chair manufacturing site in Omihachiman, Shiga, reopening it in January 2026 as ITOKI DESIGN HOUSE SHIGA. J-POWER has decided to develop and operate its first data center, the Kaminokuni Data Center project, in Kaminokuni, Hokkaido. The facility will use GPU-equipped servers, cooling systems and 40-foot containers to sell computing capacity for generative AI development and simulations, with service launch planned for summer 2027.
