Aichi Steel to build new technology and R&D building in Tokai

Aichi Steel will build a six-story new technology building at its existing site in Tokai, Aichi, to strengthen research and development and technical workforce training. The facility will include laboratories, offices and shared spaces, with completion planned for December 2028 and total investment of approximately ¥10 billion.
JFE Engineering will conduct Japan's first demonstration of separating and recovering CO2 from actual waste-incineration flue gas using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The pilot will use the Clean Plaza Fujimi waste-treatment plant in Mitaka, Tokyo, and is scheduled to run through the end of FY2026, with recovery of several kilograms of CO2 per day.
JFE Steel will expand surface-processing equipment for high-performance steel sheets at the Kurashiki district of its West Japan Works in Okayama, using Okayama Prefecture large-scale investment and regional hub promotion subsidy support. Construction is scheduled to start in October 2026, with operations beginning in June 2028.
Hanwa established HANWA STEEL SERVICE TIJUANA, S.A. DE C.V. in Rosarito, Baja California, its second coil centre in Mexico, and began full operations in August 2026. The site covers 38,086 sqm with 9,420 sqm of buildings and cuts and sells thin steel sheet for the Tijuana-Mexicali border region, where manufacturers supplying the United States are concentrated. Coil-centre functions previously run from San Diego Vista Steel Service in the United States transfer to the new operation at the end of August 2026. No investment amount was disclosed.
Aichi Steel held the groundbreaking ceremony for a new forging plant at partner Vardhman Special Steels in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. The plant will add a hot rolling mill line, with mass production targeted for FY2028; the investment amount was not disclosed.
Aichi Steel plans new electrical and rolling equipment and related facilities at its Chita Works in Tokai, Aichi, with total planned investment of JPY 11.623 billion. Construction is scheduled to run from March 2022 to March 2030.
