The facility includes advanced experimental and analytical equipment, precision-controlled laboratories, and supports research into higher-performance, smaller and lower-cost optical connectors and other connection components.
GMO Internet has joined the Ishikari Data Center Consortium and decided to develop a new site in the Ishikari Bay New Port area of Hokkaido to expand computing resources for its GMO GPU Cloud. The company will work with data center, power, telecommunications and municipal partners to secure the electricity, communications infrastructure and land needed for an AI computing hub.
Fantasista's board decided to develop an AI data center on approximately 71,787 sqm of land it owns in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi, through consolidated subsidiary NC MAX WORLD. The planned facility has a total power capacity of approximately 200MW, with a Phase I project budget of approximately ¥400 billion, and the company is targeting development-permit acquisition during fiscal 2028. Fantasista states the project's content, scale, schedule and cost remain subject to change, or the project may not proceed, pending discussions with local authorities, utilities and other parties.
ITOKI has renewed its 30-year-old mother factory and chair manufacturing site in Omihachiman, Shiga, reopening it in January 2026 as ITOKI DESIGN HOUSE SHIGA. The four-story, 2,568-sqm facility combines an external co-creation space, internal co-creation areas and a laboratory, employee workspaces, and a cafeteria, serving as a working showroom and development hub.
Renesas Electronics has opened a Physical AI and Robotics Lab in Beijing to support customer demonstrations, validation and co-development of next-generation robotics systems. The R&D facility will integrate hardware, software, AI models, control, power, sensing and system-level validation, serving as a hub from proof of concept through large-scale deployment.
J-POWER has decided to develop and operate its first data center, the Kaminokuni Data Center project, in Kaminokuni, Hokkaido. Tatsuta Electric Wire, a JX Advanced Metals group company, is investing at its Kyoto Factory in Fukuchiyama to expand production capacity for water leakage detection systems used in AI data centers. The project includes additional manufacturing equipment and optimization of the existing building layout and workflow, with full-scale operation scheduled to begin at the end of August 2026.

Furukawa Electric will invest approximately JPY 100 billion in manufacturing equipment, land and buildings in the United States, Brazil, Japan and India to expand optical-fiber and rollable ribbon-cable production. The projects are scheduled to begin mass production sequentially from the second half of fiscal 2028, with rollable ribbon-cable capacity expected to approximately double from the end of fiscal 2025, driven by data-center and generative-AI demand.
Mitsubishi Electric will establish MEHITS US, a new subsidiary in Mason, Ohio, in August 2026 to manufacture cooling systems for data centers. The company will invest approximately $30 million to refurbish and convert an existing automotive manufacturing facility, targeting production startup in April 2027 with planned annual capacity of approximately 6,000 units by 2030.
Accrete signed agreements with Getworks and Dell Technologies to acquire a new container-type data center in Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture, equipped with Dell water-cooled NVIDIA B300 GPU servers and quantum-resistant encryption from its subsidiary Forward Edge-AI Japan. The facility leverages secured power and cold climate/well water cooling advantages, with completion and handover expected September 30, 2026 and leasing to begin October 1, 2026.
Kaishin Digital Infrastructure, a joint venture set up by Taiwan's CDIB Capital Group and Shin-Etsu Kagaku Sangyo, signed a location agreement with Satsumasendai City on 18 July 2026 to build an AI data center on the Circular Park Kyushu site, the former Sendai thermal power station. Planned investment is approximately ¥850 billion for a cumulative 350 MW of capacity, which the city describes as among the largest in Japan. The site will start with a demonstration phase and expand in stages. The city expects a further ¥2 trillion of AI server-related investment across the wider park. The company was incorporated on 20 January 2026; a five-party memorandum with Kagoshima Prefecture, Circular Park Kyushu and Kyushu Electric Power followed on 12 February 2026.
Data Section began moving NVIDIA B300 GPU servers into what it calls Japan's first dedicated AI data center, in Inzai, Chiba - relocated from an originally planned Osaka site to cut latency for customers. Built inside a data-center facility in Inzai, it is being brought online in stages between May and July 2026. The company has committed about ¥50.9bn to acquire the B300 server fleet for the cluster.
Environmental Friendly Holdings' subsidiary AI Tech Tomakomai signed a preferential negotiation MOU with Finnish AI cloud provider Verda Cloud Oy for a definitive colocation lease covering the full 10MW Phase I capacity of the Tomakomai AI data center in Hokkaido. The MOU includes a $5 million reservation deposit and marks the first concrete demand-side milestone for the project, which also plans a 50MW Phase II expansion via new 66kV substation infrastructure.
NTT Data Group, through NTT Global Data Centers, launched development of the 'Tokyo TKY12' data center campus in the Inzai-Shiroi area of Chiba - a roughly 250MW, six-building campus that will rank among Japan's largest. First-phase service is planned for 2030 onward, with a high-efficiency, expandable design built for growing cloud and AI demand.
