The Japan Blood Products Organization announced a plan to strengthen its production base for plasma-derived products, centred on building a new manufacturing plant on newly acquired land in Chitose, Hokkaido, at a scale of about JPY200 billion. The plan also refurbishes its two existing domestic sites (Chitose, Hokkaido and Fukuchiyama, Kyoto), doubling current plasma processing capacity. Japan's self-sufficiency rate for these products fell from near 100% in FY2015 to 59.4% in FY2025, and the expansion is aimed at restoring domestic supply.
