Hokkaido University's Semiconductor Frontier Education and Research Organization (IFERS) held the opening ceremony for its 'Semiconductor Prototyping Lab' on the university campus in Sapporo on July 29, 2026, offering hands-on training in semiconductor manufacturing processes with an ISO Class 5/7 cleanroom. The lab is supported by the Cabinet Office's regional university and industry creation grant program together with Hokkaido, Sapporo and Chitose, with full fit-out expected by the end of fiscal 2027.
